From a renovated warehouse in the Northern California town of Petaluma, one both sees the harmony of colors being painstakingly painted onto yards of fabric and hears the sound of the handweavers at their looms. Upstairs in the studio, Robin Dintiman's multi-tasks include creating custom designs, experimenting with color combinations and communicating with her numerous showrooms nationwide.
The atmosphere conjures up the feeling of a crafts guild. Here weavers from France, Sweden and America work in sync to patiently and skillfully produce these exceptional fabrics.
Coming off the loom, hand-woven chenilles have to be touched. Using old world craftsmenship and the finestquality yarns, these chenilles are incredibly soft, yet convey a durability and sense of warmth and comfort.
Visually, a visit to Dintiman's studio is a treat. Artisans experienced in printing and painting work their way, with paintbrush in hand, up and down 22 yard tables, bringing color and life to the yards of silk and linen ground fabric. These artisans, inspired by Robin's training in Japan, carefully juxtapose ancient Japanese techniques of hand blockprinting, stenciling and burnishing with contemporary designs and colorations.
It is here that Robin works closely with the designer to create custom fabrics. Their impressions of color, texture and pattern provide the basis for the fabrics. Her experience, training and skill give these textiles a distinction that communicates quality.
